sucker punched..

_so i just finished watching sucker punch in imax tonite, despite the little hype [pretty empty theater for a friday release] and bad reviews, and maybe its just the hardcore geek/nerd/otaku in me but i loved it. first off, the story was good.. definitely not the best but i dont think the people who were excited about it from the release trailer at comic-con last year care very much for the story anyways. but there was definitely concept to it. definitely a much better ORIGINAL story then a lot of other movies ive seen with the same intentions. the action scenes, cinematography and cg really were top notch. again not surprised too much there as it was marketed as from the same creators of 300 and watchmen. the actual acting was well done and the music was simply awesome! the soundtrack was made up of a lot of reworks of old 60's-70's and maybe 80's songs that i always heard in my dads car growing up. simply put, it really was nothing but a comic book fantasy in every way and, to me, had just about everything.. sexy heroines, samurais, guns, mechs, swords, dragons, sexy heroines, robots, gangsters, german zombies, dogfights and zepplins, castles, knights, sexy heroines... everything. maybe to think about it... the only genre missing was pirates but Rocket did have a flintlock pistol and short sword so that counts in my book. so anyways.. i loved this movie and would pay to watch it again. and i guess at this point i may be just trying to defend it now but maybe everyone went in expecting a lot of something that really wasnt marketed to be everything. sucker punch is simply a great movie for the comic book nerd and i believed it definitely delivered!

_on a side note.. didnt realize it the first time i saw pictures of the mech.. but alex pardee had a huge role in the movie too as seen here with some cool posters and another link to the concepts he brought to the movie. big + there. and definitely check out the set of 4 animated trailers by Ben Hibbon that gives a little background to each of the battles.
